That's Incredible...am I seeing triple?

Photobucket

Yes, this weekend there was a Dash sighting..make that a sighting of three Dashes. We paired up with Henry's buddies Sara and Samuel to go and see Disney on Ice. I think that Henry enjoyed having some buddies to share the experience with him. He and Sara had tons of fun playing all kinds of games in the car.

The theme was "A Disneyland Adventure" and I thought it was clever how they worked many of the favorite rides into an ice skating show. Towards the end, they brought out Henry's all time favorite Disney-related thing: the castle. At first, it was dark and the castle was all lit up, it was almost breath-taking. Here is a picture with the castle in the background and all of the characters in the foreground:

I think all of the kids had a great time, and I think the adults had fun watching the kids have fun. And here is one parting shot of my little munchkin:

My Sunday Project...Disney Style

So, now that the recipients have received these, I can blog about the project that I was working on so diligently on Sunday. It was a lot of fun and I am anxious to do this again once we set a date to take Henry to Disney World.

My sister and sister-in-law made these a few years ago when they went to the parks. They told me they were a great hit and that they were constantly stopped by others inquiring where they could buy a similar shirt.

This is my first attempt to tie-dye, so I apologize to the group that received them as they probably aren't the best that they could be. But overall, I was happy with they way they turned out.

The concept is to create a tie-dyed t-shirt with a Mickey Mouse head front and center. I bought the supplies and t-shirts months and months ago as my friends' trip was scheduled to occur in April. It ended up having to be re-scheduled to October, giving me more time to procrastinate. So here I was, the weekend before departure, finally making good on my offer to make these t-shirts.

You start out by tracing a MM head on the front of the t-shirt. (Fortunately, I had a magnet that we used on the door of our Disney Cruise that was the perfect size.) Next, you baste stitch the outline of the MM head.

After you have the stitching complete, you cinch up the threads forcing the MM head to pooch out.

Next, you place a rubber band around this section making sure that only the MM head is included. I then wrapped this section in plastic wrap and tape to protect it and keep it white. I then layed out the shirt as flat as possible. I swirled the shirt and placed three more rubber bands around the shirt to divide it into 6 sections.

Finally, I did the dying. This is the area where I didn't really know what I was doing. I would have liked for the shirts to get a bit more saturated.

And here is what the final product looks like:

I won the Mickey 200

October 8, 2007
We just got back from our Disney Cruise. You guys stayed on to go to some of the parks. You had a great time – for some reason you are really enchanted with Chip & Dale now. You had fun meeting the characters and being with your cousins. You are quit the traveler and fall into the routine very quickly. You would say “are we going to the show after dinner”. You said so many funny things I can’t even remember. We went to St. Marten and shopped. Then we stopped at St. Thomas but you, me, your Mom, Nana and Papa took the Ferry to Trunk Bay in St. John. It is one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. We played in the water and the sand. Then on Friday, we went to Castaway Cay in the Bahamas, again we just played in the water and sand. It was a really fun trip. You guys will be home tomorrow – you stayed and went to Universal Studios and got to go to a character dinner where you got to meet Curious George (you call him Monkey George) your Mom said you loved it – Nana had bought you a t-shirt with a monkey to wear. On the cruise, they had the Mickey 200, your Mom made a car out of a potato and a carrot and then it raced the other cars (there were 15). You guys won first place and you got a ribbon which you wore the rest of the trip – you kept saying you won the Piston Cup like in the movie “Cars”. You watched your first PG movie – Game Plan was showing on the ship. It was good and you liked it because it was about football.
